How would you describe yourself?
I’m a mom who spent 10+ years in the pet industry. I’m still extremely active in the rescue aspect of the local pet community. I’m a little quirky and all over the place. But, I’m fun and enjoy getting to know people and exploring different cultures.
When did you start your blog?
How did you choose your blog name?
I wanted to combine my three greatest passions: my children, the pet industry, and writing. So, to keep it simple, Dogs + Kids was created.
What keeps you motivated and inspired to blog?
My children. You’ll see a lot of content that focuses around my children on my blog.
Tell us a little about your family.
I have two children. My oldest is Haley, she’s 5. My youngest is Dray, he’s 15 months old. Haley suffers from epilepsy. She was diagnosed at only 2 years old. Dray was diagnosed at birth with Sickle Cell.
How do you prioritize family and your blog?
Managing my blog and content writing happens during nap times at at night time. I spend a lot of endless hours behind a laptop at night. I always put my family first, though. Because, if I’m not out there experiencing the world with them, I won’t have any content to write.
Where do you see your blog and yourself in 5 years?
I’m really trying to set out a name for myself and my blog. I’m looking forward to branding my blog in a
huge way. Showing other moms who may have a struggle due to their own health problems or their children’s health that they can still make it. There is still opportunity out there for them.
Biggest life lesson learned blogging?
Spend extra time with your family. I spent a lot of time developing my blog layout to make it “pretty.” But, at the end of the day, didn’t have any content to write. You have to get out and get involved to
get that content that keeps your audience engaged.
What is your secret to success?
My family, hands down. Every day, looking at them, they keep me moving. Plus, a lot of patience and planning. Oh, and coffee. A lot of coffee.
What do you wish someone would have told you when you first started blogging?
Do more research. Don’t find the first Pinterest pin that you think will help you and roll with it. Visit a lot of websites, gather a lot of information. Do your research.
All bloggers encounter writer’s block. How do you get past this?
I reach out to my audience via social media. They always give me great ideas.
What was your sweetest success story?
As silly as it sounds, creating my first PayPal invoice for a brand to pay me for a sponsored post. I finally felt “official.”
How do you relax?
Time away from electronics.
Do you belong to any other social media networks to promote your blog?
I’m part of Top Mommy Blogs & Bloglovin’
